Dr Jasdev Singh
Repair of Previous Obstetric Perineal Injury
Tears or scarring from childbirth that did not heal well can cause pain, discomfort or bowel symptoms. Later repair can help, sometimes with a bowel specialist.
Pelvic Floor & Vaginal Surgery
Treating the lasting effects of a childbirth injury
Some women are left with problems after a tear during birth. These include pain, a tight or gaping scar, pain during sex, or difficulty controlling wind or stool if the anal muscle was affected. Repair aims to improve comfort, function and confidence.
These problems can be hard to talk about, and many women wait years. You deserve to be heard.
Dr Jasdev assesses the injury carefully and involves colorectal colleagues when the anal muscle needs repair.
Symptoms understood first
Leaking, bulging or discomfort is assessed carefully, including how much it affects your daily life.
Simpler options considered too
Pelvic floor exercises, physiotherapy and other treatments without surgery are discussed alongside operations.
Recovery planned in advance
You will know what to expect after the procedure and when your review is due.
What this care may offer
- A careful assessment of the old injury
- Repair of scar tissue or weakened muscles
- Joint care with bowel specialists when needed
How your care is planned
Each stage is explained so you understand the cause of your symptoms, your options and what recovery involves. You can take time to decide.
Examine the perineum and review bowel symptoms
Arrange scans or bowel tests if needed
Plan the repair and physiotherapy
How treatment works
Painful scar tissue can be removed and the tissues rebuilt. If the anal sphincter, the ring of muscle that controls the bowel, was damaged, an ultrasound of the muscle may be needed. Repair may then be done with a colorectal surgeon. Pelvic floor physiotherapy is often part of treatment. The aim is comfortable, flexible tissue and, where possible, better bowel control.
Who may benefit
Women with ongoing pain, discomfort, sexual difficulties or bowel control problems after a tear or episiotomy during childbirth. It is never too late to ask for help, even many years after the birth.
What to expect
Your first visit is private and unhurried. Tests may be arranged before surgery is planned. Recovery depends on the repair and usually takes two to six weeks. If you plan another baby, how to give birth safely afterwards is discussed with you.
How Dr Jasdev works with you
He brings gynaecological surgical experience and a calm, private approach to symptoms that many women find hard to talk about. Plans follow current evidence and your own priorities. You will have time to ask questions before anything is decided. Women see him from Kuala Lumpur and across Malaysia.
