IVF & ICSI
An overview of how IVF and ICSI are planned, from first tests to embryo transfer, and how the right method is chosen for you and your partner.
Special Areas of Expertise
Planning IVF and ICSI around both partners’ results
IVF brings eggs and sperm together in the laboratory. ICSI is a type of IVF where a single sperm is injected into each egg. Both use the same steps of hormone stimulation, egg collection and embryo transfer. The choice between them depends mainly on sperm quality and past results.
Starting IVF can feel like a leap into the unknown. A clear overview helps you see the whole path before you begin.
Dr Jasdev explains each stage in advance, so you know what to expect and when.
A plan that starts with your results
Your age, history, test results and goals are reviewed before any treatment is suggested.
Clear reasons for each step
You will know why a test or medicine is recommended, what it can do and where its limits are.
Care that stays connected
Reviews are planned around how you respond, your cycle timing and your next decision.
What an overall IVF plan gives you
- A clear timeline from first visit to pregnancy test
- The right fertilisation method for your situation
- Decisions on embryo culture, freezing and transfer made together
How your care is planned
Every stage answers three questions: what is happening, why it matters, and what comes next. The plan is reviewed at each stage and adjusted when needed.
Complete tests for both partners
Stimulate, collect eggs and fertilise by IVF or ICSI
Grow embryos, transfer one and freeze any suitable extras
The main stages
Treatment starts with tests for both partners. Hormone injections then help several eggs grow, followed by egg collection under sedation. The eggs are fertilised by IVF or ICSI, and the embryos grow for a few days. One is transferred, and suitable extras may be frozen.
Who may benefit
Couples with blocked tubes, male factor infertility, endometriosis, unexplained infertility or unsuccessful simpler treatment. It also helps those needing genetic testing of embryos or fertility preservation.
What to expect
A full cycle usually takes four to six weeks from planning to pregnancy test. You will have a written calendar and regular scans. Updates on your eggs, fertilisation and embryos are shared with you along the way.

What couples often ask about IVF and ICSI

Do we need IVF or ICSI?
How long does a cycle take?
How many embryos should be transferred?
What happens to spare embryos?
Your questions about IVF and ICSI
What is the difference between IVF and ICSI?
In IVF, eggs and sperm are placed together to fertilise. In ICSI, a single sperm is injected into each egg, which helps when sperm quality is low.
Who is IVF or ICSI suitable for?
Couples with tubal problems, sperm problems, endometriosis, unexplained infertility or unsuccessful simpler treatment.
What tests are needed before starting?
Egg reserve tests, a pelvic scan, a semen analysis and infection screening for both partners.
Is treatment painful or risky?
Injections and egg collection cause some discomfort, and sedation is used for collection. Risks include ovarian hyperstimulation and multiple pregnancy, which are kept low with careful monitoring.
