Understanding what your periods are telling you

Period and hormone problems cover a wide range of symptoms. These include irregular or absent periods, heavy or painful bleeding, bleeding between periods and premenstrual symptoms. Causes include PCOS, thyroid problems, fibroids and hormone changes around puberty or perimenopause.

Many women put up with difficult periods for years. You do not have to, and help is available.

Dr Jasdev looks at your symptoms as a whole and explains the likely cause before suggesting treatment.

01

Your symptoms taken seriously

Your history, symptoms and any past results are reviewed before a plan is suggested.

02

Options explained clearly

You will hear the benefits, limits and risks of each option, including simply monitoring.

03

Care that stays connected

Reviews are planned around your diagnosis, how treatment is working and any plans for pregnancy.

What a proper assessment gives you

  • A clear explanation of the cause of your symptoms
  • Treatment options that fit your plans for pregnancy
  • A plan to check that treatment is working

How your care is planned

Each step is designed to answer what is causing your symptoms, what matters most to you, and what to do next. The plan is reviewed as results come in.

01

Talk through your cycle pattern and symptoms

02

Arrange hormone tests and a pelvic ultrasound

03

Agree treatment and a time to review

Common causes

Hormone imbalances, such as PCOS or thyroid disease, can make periods irregular. Fibroids, polyps or adenomyosis can cause heavy or painful bleeding. Stress, weight change and some medicines can also affect your cycle. Finding the cause guides the right treatment.

Who may benefit

Women whose periods are irregular, very heavy, very painful or absent, or who have bleeding between periods or after sex. It also helps women whose premenstrual symptoms affect daily life.

What to expect

Your first visit covers your cycle, symptoms and medical history. An examination and scan may be done, and blood tests arranged. You will leave with an explanation and a plan, with further tests only if they are needed.

How Dr Jasdev works with you

He combines gynaecology and fertility experience with clear, unhurried explanations. Treatment choices follow current evidence and take your future pregnancy plans into account. You will always know why a test or treatment is being suggested. Women see him from Kuala Lumpur and across Malaysia, and some travel from neighbouring countries.

What to bring to your appointment

Bringing these helps Dr Jasdev see the full picture and make the most of your visit. If you cannot find everything, bring what you have.

  • A record of your periods for the last few months
  • Any previous blood tests or scan reports
  • A list of medicines, including hormonal contraception

Your questions about period and hormone problems

What are menstrual and hormonal disorders?

They are conditions that affect the timing, flow or symptoms of your periods, often because of hormone changes or problems in the womb or ovaries.

Who should seek advice?

Women whose periods are irregular, heavy, painful or absent, or who bleed between periods. A sudden change in your usual pattern is also worth checking.

What tests are needed?

Usually hormone and thyroid blood tests, a blood count and a pelvic ultrasound. Other tests depend on your symptoms.

Is treatment painful or risky?

Most treatment involves tablets or hormone options, with side effects explained beforehand. Procedures are only suggested when they are likely to help.

Why see Dr Jasdev for period problems?

He looks at your symptoms and your future pregnancy plans together, and explains each option in plain language.

How do I book?

Call or WhatsApp the clinic. A record of your recent periods will help at the first visit.

This page is general information and does not replace a consultation. Whether a treatment suits you, and its risks and timing, should be discussed with Dr Jasdev based on your own history.
