Uterine Polyp Removal

Polyps are small growths in the womb lining that can cause irregular bleeding or affect fertility. They are usually removed through the cervix, with no cuts.

Removing polyps to ease bleeding and check the lining

Uterine polyps are soft growths from the womb lining. They are usually noncancerous but can cause bleeding between periods, heavy periods or bleeding after menopause. They are removed by hysteroscopy, using fine instruments passed through the cervix.

Polyp removal is usually a quick day procedure with a short recovery.

Dr Jasdev removes the polyp carefully and sends it for testing, so you know exactly what it was.

01

Careful assessment before surgery

Scans, symptoms and past operations are reviewed, so surgery is only suggested when it is likely to help.

02

Fertility kept in mind

If you hope to conceive in future, surgery is planned to protect your womb, tubes and ovaries as far as possible.

03

Clear recovery guidance

You will know what recovery involves, when to return to normal activities and when your review is due.

What polyp removal gives you

  • Treatment of bleeding caused by the polyp
  • A laboratory check of the tissue removed
  • No cuts on the tummy

How your care is planned

Each stage is explained so you know why surgery is being considered, what it involves and how recovery will go. You can take time to decide.

01

Confirm the polyp on ultrasound or saline scan

02

Remove it by hysteroscopy as a day procedure

03

Review the lab result and your symptoms

How polyp removal works

A narrow telescope is passed through the cervix into the womb. The polyp is seen on a screen and removed with small instruments or a fine loop. The procedure usually takes fifteen to thirty minutes, under sedation or a general anaesthetic.

Who may benefit

Women with irregular or heavy bleeding, bleeding after menopause, or a polyp seen on scan. Polyps found during fertility tests are often removed before treatment begins. Polyps found by chance without symptoms may still be removed, especially after menopause.

What to expect

You can usually go home the same day. Light bleeding and mild cramps for a few days are normal. The lab result is usually available within one to two weeks and is discussed at your review.

How Dr Jasdev works with you

He combines surgical and fertility experience, and he explains each option plainly, including when surgery may not be needed. Plans follow current evidence and your hopes for the future. You will have time to ask questions before anything is decided. Women see him from Kuala Lumpur and across Malaysia, and some travel from neighbouring countries.

It is a soft growth from the womb lining. Most are noncancerous, but they can cause abnormal bleeding or affect fertility.

Who should have one removed?

Women with symptoms such as abnormal bleeding, polyps after menopause, or polyps found during a fertility assessment.

What tests are needed first?

An ultrasound or saline scan to confirm the polyp, and a pregnancy test on the day.

Is it painful or risky?

It is done under sedation or anaesthetic, and mild cramps afterwards are common. Rare risks include infection, bleeding or injury to the womb.
