Dr Jasdev Singh
Laparoscopic-Assisted Vaginal Hysterectomy (LAVH)
The womb is freed using keyhole surgery and removed through the vagina, combining two approaches to avoid a large tummy cut and speed recovery.
Laparoscopic Surgery
Combining keyhole and vaginal surgery for an easier recovery
In an LAVH, part of the operation is done with a camera through small cuts in the tummy. The rest is done through the vagina, where the womb is removed. This avoids a large tummy wound.
It can suit women for whom a purely vaginal hysterectomy is not possible, such as after previous surgery.
Dr Jasdev explains why this approach may suit you, and how it compares with the alternatives.
Careful assessment before surgery
Scans, symptoms and past operations are reviewed, so surgery is only suggested when it is likely to help.
Fertility kept in mind
If you hope to conceive in future, surgery is planned to protect your womb, tubes and ovaries as far as possible.
Clear recovery guidance
You will know what recovery involves, when to return to normal activities and when your review is due.
What LAVH gives you
- No large tummy scar
- A view of the pelvis to check the ovaries and tubes
- A recovery that is usually quicker than after open surgery
How your care is planned
Each stage is explained so you know why surgery is being considered, what it involves and how recovery will go. You can take time to decide.
Review your symptoms and previous surgery

How the surgery works
The camera is used to free the upper attachments of the womb and check the pelvis. The surgery is then completed through the vagina, where the womb is removed and the upper end of the vagina is stitched. The ovaries can often be kept. The operation usually takes one to two hours.
Who may benefit
Women who have completed their family and need a hysterectomy for bleeding, fibroids, adenomyosis or pain. It is particularly useful when previous surgery or adhesions make vaginal surgery alone difficult. It is not suitable for everyone, for example when the womb is very large.
What to expect
Most women stay one or two nights. Recovery usually takes four to six weeks. Avoid heavy lifting and sex until you are told it is safe.
How Dr Jasdev works with you
He combines surgical and fertility experience, and he explains each option plainly, including when surgery may not be needed. Plans follow current evidence and your hopes for the future. You will have time to ask questions before anything is decided. Women see him from Kuala Lumpur and across Malaysia, and some travel from neighbouring countries.
