Removing fibroids through small cuts while keeping the womb

Myomectomy means removing fibroids and repairing the womb. The laparoscopic approach uses keyhole surgery for fibroids in the wall of the womb or on its outer surface. It suits women who want to keep their womb, often for a future pregnancy.

Recovery after keyhole surgery is usually faster than after open surgery.

Dr Jasdev plans each myomectomy from detailed imaging, and repairs the womb wall carefully for future pregnancy.

01

Careful assessment before surgery

Scans, symptoms and past operations are reviewed, so surgery is only suggested when it is likely to help.

02

Fertility kept in mind

If you hope to conceive in future, surgery is planned to protect your womb, tubes and ovaries as far as possible.

03

Clear recovery guidance

You will know what recovery involves, when to return to normal activities and when your review is due.

What laparoscopic myomectomy gives you

  • Removal of fibroids that cause symptoms
  • A careful repair of the womb wall
  • Smaller scars and a quicker recovery

How your care is planned

Each stage is explained so you know why surgery is being considered, what it involves and how recovery will go. You can take time to decide.

How the surgery works

Under general anaesthetic, instruments are passed through small cuts in the tummy. Each fibroid is cut out, and the womb wall is stitched in layers. Fibroids are removed in small pieces or through a slightly larger cut. The operation usually takes one to three hours.

Who may benefit

Women with fibroids causing heavy bleeding, pain or pressure, and women whose fibroids may be affecting fertility. Very large or numerous fibroids may be better treated with open surgery.

What to expect

Most women stay in hospital for one or two nights. Recovery usually takes two to four weeks. You will be advised to wait several months before trying to conceive, and a caesarean birth may be recommended in a future pregnancy.

How Dr Jasdev works with you

He combines surgical and fertility experience, and he explains each option plainly, including when surgery may not be needed. Plans follow current evidence and your hopes for the future. You will have time to ask questions before anything is decided. Women see him from Kuala Lumpur and across Malaysia, and some travel from neighbouring countries.
