Removing endometriosis to ease pain and support fertility

Laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis removes or destroys patches of disease. It can also free organs stuck together by scar tissue and treat endometriomas on the ovaries. The aim is to reduce pain and restore normal anatomy.

Surgery is a big decision. It should be weighed against medical treatment and your fertility plans.

Dr Jasdev plans surgery carefully to protect the ovaries and other organs.

01

Careful assessment before surgery

Scans, symptoms and past operations are reviewed, so surgery is only suggested when it is likely to help.

02

Fertility kept in mind

If you hope to conceive in future, surgery is planned to protect your womb, tubes and ovaries as far as possible.

03

Clear recovery guidance

You will know what recovery involves, when to return to normal activities and when your review is due.

What endometriosis surgery gives you

  • Removal of visible disease and scarring
  • Care to protect ovarian tissue and egg reserve
  • A plan for medical treatment afterwards if needed

How your care is planned

Each stage is explained so you know why surgery is being considered, what it involves and how recovery will go. You can take time to decide.

01

Map the disease with a detailed ultrasound or MRI

02

Remove endometriosis by laparoscopy

03

Plan recovery, pain control and fertility steps

How the surgery works

Under general anaesthetic, a camera and small instruments are passed through small cuts in the tummy. Endometriosis is cut out or treated with heat. Cysts are removed from the ovary while keeping healthy tissue. Deep disease near the bowel or bladder may need a joint approach with other surgeons.

Who may benefit

Women with endometriosis causing pain that has not settled with medicine, those with endometriomas, and some women with fertility problems linked to the disease.

What to expect

Most women stay one night or go home the same day. Recovery usually takes two to four weeks. If you are not trying to conceive, hormonal treatment may be advised afterwards to lower the chance of the disease returning.

How Dr Jasdev works with you

He combines surgical and fertility experience, and he explains each option plainly, including when surgery may not be needed. Plans follow current evidence and your hopes for the future. You will have time to ask questions before anything is decided. Women see him from Kuala Lumpur and across Malaysia, and some travel from neighbouring countries.
