Early Pregnancy Care

Prompt, careful treatment that protects your health

An ectopic pregnancy is one that implants outside the womb, most often in a fallopian tube. It cannot continue, and it can cause dangerous internal bleeding if it ruptures. An early diagnosis allows more treatment choices.

This is a frightening diagnosis, and it is also a pregnancy loss. Both deserve care.

Dr Jasdev explains the options clearly and acts quickly when treatment is needed.

01

Timely, calm assessment

Your symptoms and dates are reviewed promptly, with scans and blood tests arranged when needed.

02

Honest explanations

You will be told what the results show, what is still uncertain, and what happens next.

03

A clear safety plan

You will know when to come back and which symptoms need urgent attention.

What this care gives you

  • A clear diagnosis using a scan and blood tests
  • A choice of monitoring, medicine or surgery when safe
  • Advice on future fertility and early scans next time

How your care is planned

Early pregnancy can be an anxious time. Each step is explained so you know what is being checked and why. You will not be left waiting without a plan.

01

Confirm the diagnosis with a scan and hCG levels

02

Choose monitoring, methotrexate or surgery

03

Follow hCG levels until they return to normal

Treatment options

Some small ectopic pregnancies resolve on their own with careful monitoring. Others are treated with methotrexate, a medicine that stops the pregnancy growing. Surgery, usually by laparoscopy, is needed if there is bleeding or other options are not suitable. The tube may be kept or removed. After treatment, most women can try again once hCG levels are back to normal and they feel ready.

Who may benefit

Women with a positive test and pain or bleeding, a suspected ectopic pregnancy on scan, or a pregnancy of unknown location with worrying hCG levels. A previous ectopic pregnancy, tubal surgery or IVF raises the risk.

What to expect

Care depends on your symptoms and results. With medicine or monitoring, you will have regular blood tests for some weeks. After surgery, most women go home within a day or two. You will be told which symptoms need urgent attention. Your next pregnancy should have an early scan, as the risk of another ectopic pregnancy is higher.

Your questions about ectopic pregnancy

What is an ectopic pregnancy?

It is a pregnancy that implants outside the womb, most often in a fallopian tube. It cannot continue safely.

Who is at risk?

Any woman can have one, but the risk is higher after a previous ectopic pregnancy, tubal damage, pelvic infection or IVF.

What tests are needed?

A pelvic ultrasound and hCG blood tests. These are repeated to guide treatment.

Is treatment painful or risky?

Methotrexate can cause tummy pain and tiredness. Surgery is done under anaesthetic. A ruptured ectopic pregnancy is an emergency, which is why the warning signs matter.

Why see Dr Jasdev for ectopic pregnancy?

He acts promptly, explains your options clearly and considers your future fertility in every decision.
