Male fertility care from first test to treatment

Male factors are involved in many couples’ fertility problems. Care ranges from semen analysis and hormone tests to treating causes such as a varicocele or hormone imbalance. When sperm numbers are very low or absent, surgical sperm retrieval and ICSI may be options.

Male infertility is often overlooked. Men deserve the same careful assessment as women.

Dr Jasdev plans male and female care together, so treatment makes sense for you as a couple.

01

Both partners are assessed

Male factors play a part in many couples’ fertility problems, so sperm health is checked early.

02

Results explained clearly

You will understand what each result means and which options follow from it.

03

A plan for you as a couple

Male and female findings are considered together, so decisions make sense for both of you.

What male fertility care gives you

  • Thorough testing to find the cause
  • Treatment of reversible causes where possible
  • Sperm retrieval and ICSI when needed

How your care is planned

Each stage answers what is happening, why it matters, and what comes next for you as a couple. The plan is reviewed as results come in.

01

Semen analysis and a review of health and lifestyle

02

Hormone, genetic and scan tests as needed

03

Plan treatment, sperm retrieval or ICSI as a couple

How care is planned

The first step is a semen analysis, repeated if the result is abnormal. Hormone and genetic tests and a scrotal ultrasound help find the cause. Lifestyle changes, medicine or surgery may help some men. For azoospermia, sperm may be retrieved surgically for ICSI.

Who may benefit

Men with abnormal semen results, no sperm in the semen, previous testicular problems or cancer treatment, and couples with unexplained infertility. It also helps men who have used anabolic steroids or testosterone, which can switch off sperm production.

What to expect

Your first visit is private and unhurried. Tests are arranged over a few weeks. You will receive a clear explanation of the results and the options for you as a couple. Stopping smoking, cutting down on alcohol and keeping a healthy weight can support sperm health while tests are under way.

How Dr Jasdev works with you

He looks at male and female fertility together and explains results without jargon or judgement. Advice follows current evidence and your priorities as a couple. You will always know why a test or treatment is being suggested. Men and couples see him from Kuala Lumpur and across Malaysia, and some travel from neighbouring countries.

What to bring to your appointment

Bringing earlier results helps Dr Jasdev avoid repeating tests and focus on your next step. If you cannot find everything, bring what you have.

  • All semen analysis reports
  • Details of past illness, surgery or medicines
  • Your partner’s fertility test results

Your questions about male infertility

What is male infertility?

It means a problem with sperm production, quality or delivery that makes conception harder.

Who should be assessed?

Men whose partner has not conceived after a year of trying, or sooner if there are known risk factors.

What tests are needed?

A semen analysis, hormone tests and sometimes genetic tests or a scrotal ultrasound.

Is treatment painful or risky?

Most tests are simple. Sperm retrieval is done under anaesthetic, with some soreness afterwards. Risks are explained before any procedure.

He assesses men with the same care as women, and plans treatment for the couple together.
