Pelvic Floor Reconstruction

When several pelvic supports are weak, a planned combination of repairs can treat prolapse of the bladder, womb and bowel together.

Pelvic Floor & Vaginal Surgery

Pelvic floor care

Restoring support to the whole pelvic floor

The pelvic floor is a group of muscles and tissues that support the bladder, womb and bowel. When several areas are weak, prolapse can affect more than one part of the vagina. Pelvic floor reconstruction combines repairs to treat all the weak areas in one plan.

Living with prolapse can affect every part of daily life. A single, well planned operation can address several problems at once.

Dr Jasdev assesses each area carefully and tailors the repair to your symptoms.

01

Symptoms understood first

Leaking, bulging or discomfort is assessed carefully, including how much it affects your daily life.

02

Simpler options considered too

Pelvic floor exercises, physiotherapy and other treatments without surgery are discussed alongside operations.

03

Recovery planned in advance

You will know what to expect after the procedure and when your review is due.

What pelvic floor reconstruction may offer

  • A single plan for more than one area of prolapse
  • Attention to bladder, bowel and sexual function
  • Options with and without mesh discussed openly

How your care is planned

Each stage is explained so you understand the cause of your symptoms, your options and what recovery involves. You can take time to decide.

01

Assess each area of prolapse and your symptoms

02

Plan the combination of repairs needed

03

Perform surgery and support recovery with physiotherapy

What reconstruction may include

Depending on your needs, surgery may include front and back wall repair, support for the upper vagina, a vaginal hysterectomy and perineal repair. Incontinence surgery may be added. Physiotherapy before and after surgery helps protect the result. Mesh is used only when there is a clear reason, and its risks are discussed openly.

Who may benefit

Women with prolapse affecting more than one part of the vagina, often with bladder or bowel symptoms, who have not improved with treatment other than surgery. It also helps women whose prolapse has returned after earlier surgery.

What to expect

Most women stay one to three nights. Recovery takes six to eight weeks. A pelvic floor physiotherapist can help you rebuild strength afterwards.
