Time-Lapse Embryo Monitoring
Embryos grow in an incubator with a built in camera, so their development can be watched without taking them out. Evidence on its benefit is still developing.

Watching embryos develop without disturbing them
Time lapse monitoring uses special incubators that photograph each embryo every few minutes. The images create a film of how the embryo divides and grows. The embryologist can study it without removing the embryo from stable conditions.
Couples often ask whether this technology improves the chance of pregnancy. Research has not yet shown a clear benefit for everyone.
Dr Jasdev explains what time lapse can and cannot offer, so you can decide whether it is worth the cost.
A plan that starts with your results
Your age, history, test results and goals are reviewed before any treatment is suggested.
Clear reasons for each step
You will know why a test or medicine is recommended, what it can do and where its limits are.
Care that stays connected
Reviews are planned around how you respond, your cycle timing and your next decision.
What time lapse monitoring can give you
- Stable conditions with fewer disturbances
- Detailed information on embryo growth
- Extra information to support embryo selection
How your care is planned
Every stage answers three questions: what is happening, why it matters, and what comes next. The plan is reviewed at each stage and adjusted when needed.

How time lapse works
After fertilisation, embryos are placed in separate wells in the incubator. A camera records images at regular intervals, and the timing of each cell division is noted. These patterns may help the embryologist choose which embryo to transfer or freeze, alongside standard grading.
Who may consider it
Couples having IVF or ICSI who want more information about how their embryos develop. It may also be discussed after previous cycles where embryo quality was a concern.
What to expect
Nothing changes for you during the cycle. You may be shown images or summaries of your embryos’ development. The extra cost and the limits of the evidence are discussed before you choose.
How Dr Jasdev works with you
He brings together experience in fertility and gynaecology, and he explains things in plain language. Advice is based on current evidence and on what matters to you. You will always know what the next step is and why it has been suggested. He sees couples from Kuala Lumpur and across Malaysia, as well as some who travel from neighbouring countries.
What to bring to your appointment
Your records help Dr Jasdev understand your history quickly, so more of the visit can go to your questions. If you cannot find everything, bring what you have.
- Previous embryology reports
- Questions about costs
- Your thoughts on how embryos should be selected
What couples often ask
Most couples arrive with several questions. These common ones can help you plan what to ask.
Will time lapse improve our chances?
Is it worth the extra cost?
Can we see our embryos?
How does it change embryo selection?
Your questions about time lapse monitoring
What is time lapse embryo monitoring?
It is the use of an incubator with a built in camera that photographs embryos regularly, so their growth can be studied without disturbing them.
Who is it suitable for?
Couples having IVF or ICSI who want more detail on embryo development. It is an option rather than a necessity.
Does it need extra tests?
No. It is added to the laboratory stage of your IVF or ICSI cycle.
Is it risky?
There are no known extra risks to the embryos. The main consideration is cost, as its benefit for pregnancy is not yet clear.
Why see Dr Jasdev about time lapse?
He gives an honest view of the current evidence, so you can decide whether it adds value for you.
