Preparing your embryo in a fluid that may help it attach

EmbryoGlue is a transfer fluid containing hyaluronan, a substance found naturally in the womb around the time of implantation. The embryo is placed in this fluid for a short time before transfer. The aim is to help the embryo stick to the lining.

Couples often want to do everything possible. It helps to know which extras have some evidence behind them, and how strong it is.

Dr Jasdev explains the current evidence and whether this option makes sense for your transfer.

01

A plan that starts with your results

Your age, history, test results and goals are reviewed before any treatment is suggested.

02

Clear reasons for each step

You will know why a test or medicine is recommended, what it can do and where its limits are.

03

Care that stays connected

Reviews are planned around how you respond, your cycle timing and your next decision.

What this option may offer

  • A simple addition that does not change how transfer feels
  • Some research support for a possible benefit
  • A clear discussion of cost and evidence

How your care is planned

Every stage answers three questions: what is happening, why it matters, and what comes next. The plan is reviewed at each stage and adjusted when needed.

01

Discuss whether EmbryoGlue suits your transfer

02

Place the embryo in the fluid before transfer

03

Carry out the transfer as usual

How it works

On transfer day, the embryologist moves your embryo into the hyaluronan rich fluid for a short time. The embryo is then loaded into the transfer tube with some of the fluid. The transfer itself is done in the normal way. It can be used for both fresh and frozen embryo transfers.

Who may consider it

Couples having a fresh or frozen embryo transfer who wish to consider it. It may be discussed after previous unsuccessful transfers, though it can be used in any cycle.

What to expect

Nothing changes for you on transfer day. Any added cost is explained beforehand, along with what research shows about its effect. You can decide at your planning visit.

What couples often ask

Most couples arrive with several questions. These common ones can help you plan what to ask.

01

Does EmbryoGlue improve the chance of pregnancy?

02

Is it safe for the embryo?

03

Can it be used with frozen embryos?

04

Does it raise the chance of twins?

Your questions about EmbryoGlue

What is EmbryoGlue?

It is a transfer fluid containing hyaluronan. The embryo is placed in it before transfer, which may help it attach to the womb lining.

Who is it suitable for?

Any couple having an embryo transfer can consider it. It is optional, and the decision depends on your history and preferences.

Are extra tests needed?

No. It is added in the laboratory on the day of transfer.

Is it risky?

No specific harm to embryos has been found. Some studies suggest a higher chance of twins when more than one embryo is transferred, which is one reason single embryo transfer is encouraged.

Why see Dr Jasdev about this?

He explains what the research shows in plain terms, so you can decide whether it is worth adding.
