Treatment of Intrauterine Adhesions

Scar tissue inside the womb can stop an embryo implanting. Careful hysteroscopic treatment and repeat checks aim to restore a healthy lining for pregnancy.

Surgical care

Helping the womb lining recover for a future pregnancy

Adhesions are bands of scar tissue that can form inside the womb after surgery or infection. They can reduce the space for an embryo and damage the lining. For women hoping to conceive, treatment focuses on removing scar tissue and helping the lining regrow.

Scarring can be a hidden cause of infertility or miscarriage. Treating it may open the way to pregnancy.

Dr Jasdev combines careful surgery with steps to protect the lining as it heals.

01

Careful assessment before surgery

Scans, symptoms and past operations are reviewed, so surgery is only suggested when it is likely to help.

02

Fertility kept in mind

If you hope to conceive in future, surgery is planned to protect your womb, tubes and ovaries as far as possible.

03

Clear recovery guidance

You will know what recovery involves, when to return to normal activities and when your review is due.

What this treatment gives you

  • Removal of scar tissue that may block implantation
  • Support for the lining as it heals
  • A plan for when to try or start IVF

How your care is planned

Each stage is explained so you know why surgery is being considered, what it involves and how recovery will go. You can take time to decide.

01

Map the scarring with hysteroscopy

02

Divide the adhesions and support healing

03

Check the womb again before pregnancy

How treatment works

Under anaesthetic, the scar tissue is divided with fine instruments under direct view. Oestrogen may be given afterwards to help the lining grow, and sometimes a small device is placed for a short time to keep the walls apart. A second look hysteroscopy checks the result.

Who may benefit

Women hoping to conceive who have light or absent periods after womb surgery, repeated implantation failure, or recurrent miscarriage linked to scarring. It also suits women whose scarring was found while preparing for IVF.

What to expect

Most women go home the same day, though more than one procedure may be needed. Your lining will be monitored before you try to conceive, and any pregnancy afterwards is watched closely. Periods that become heavier and more regular after treatment are usually a good sign that the lining is recovering.

How Dr Jasdev works with you

He combines surgical and fertility experience, and he explains each option plainly, including when surgery may not be needed. Plans follow current evidence and your hopes for the future. You will have time to ask questions before anything is decided. Women see him from Kuala Lumpur and across Malaysia, and some travel from neighbouring countries.

They are bands of scar tissue inside the womb that can affect periods, implantation and pregnancy.

Who is treatment suitable for?

Women hoping to conceive who have scarring confirmed or suspected on hysteroscopy or scan.

What tests are needed first?

A hysteroscopy or saline scan to assess the scarring, and hormone tests if periods are absent.

Is it painful or risky?

It is done under anaesthetic. Risks include bleeding, infection, injury to the womb and the scarring returning. Pregnancies afterwards need careful monitoring.
